    THE FAMOUS tile and brick production industry in Mullaittivu District is to be revived again, providing more than 500 employment openings under the Government’s ‘Uthuru Wasanthaya’ (Northern Spring) programme.   • Mannar District New Year Celebrations Draw Huge Crowds

  • LTTE Terrorists Robbed Fishing Boats Given Back Free

    FISHING TRAWLERS, boats and boat engines, captured from Mullaittivu district previous LTTE terrorist bases during the final phases of the Wanni Humanitarian Operations, were vested again in the fishing community Monday (3) morning at a simple ceremony, held close to the beach, near Mullaittivu District Secretariat. Major General Athula Jayawardene, Commander, Security Forces, Mullaittivu, on the instructions of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, made arrangements to bring down all those captured LTTE boats and boat engines that can be made operational from remote areas such as Welioya, Oddusuddan, Puthukkuddiyiruppu, etc under his command.

    THE Sinhala-Hindu New Year spirits in the east showed a dramatic increase this year when thousands of civilians thronged the Weber Stadium at Batticaloa to take part in New Year celebrations organized by Army troops serving the area.   • THE SECOND COURT MARTIAL DIRECTS ESCORTING OFFICER TO PRODUCE GENERAL SARATH FONSEKA

    THE SECOND COURT MARTIAL resumed its sittings to hear charges against General Sarath Fonseka Tuesday (4) afternoon as scheduled. However, General Sarath Fonseka was not present for the proceedings. The Court Martial adjourned and directed the escorting officer to produce the respondent before the Court Martial at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday (5) for proceedings. The tribunal maintained that no official intimation over his absence for the proceedings has been formally made to the Court Martial.
