NEW NURSERY AT DIYATALAWA GARRISON OPENED

Recent opening of a new nursery for the benefit of kiddies of Army personnel at the Military Garrison at Diyatalawa was to fulfil one of long-felt requirements of the families of Army Officers and Other Ranks resident in the area.


Bangladesh and Canadian diplomats meet SF authorities in Jaffna

Ahigh-level Canadian delegation was in Jaffna during this weekend (20 September 2003), as part of their itinerary connected to a visit to the northeast of Sri Lanka. The delegation, led by Sri Lanka\'s High Commissioner for Canada Ms. V Raymond, Adviser on Political and Economic affairs, Ms. Elizabeth Jones and Mr. Joe William, Adviser for Development, met Deputy Security Forces Commander in Jaffna, Major General D. Rathnasabhapathy where the delegation was briefed on the current security situation in the peninsula.


Commander lays foundation stone for library building

The Commander of the Army, Lt Gen S.H.S.Kottegoda, attended the ceremony of laying the foundation stone to the proposed new library building and the Relics chamber at the Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya this morning (23 Sept).

The Mines Advisory Group (MAG), engaged in de-mining activities in Batticaloa area refutes media claims that dead bodies in the attack on the LTTE camp at Periya Pullumalai on 07th September 2004 were carried to a nearby Army camp on MAG vehicles, or that the de-miners heard Sinhalese language being spoken by fleeing attackers.


Defence Minister Meets Security Forcess Personnel

A briefing on unfolding peace prospects and its related developments, now in the making following the consensual agreement made between the Sri Lankan government and LTTE, was made by Hon.Thilak Marapana, Minister of Defence before hundreds of members of the armed forces during his visit to Wanni and Minneriya areas on Sunday (22).


First Army de-mining team completes their training

Award of certificates to the first batch of Army personnel, who accomplished the month-long US sponsored Training Course on Humanitarian De-mining project, took place on Tuesday (23) at a fitting ceremony at Embilipitiya Training school of Army Engineering.


Tae Kwondo trainees receive their colours

The Korean Ambassador Mr. Lim Jae Hung and Mrs. Lim Sum Hee were the Chief Guests at the passing-out ceremony of the Tae Kwondo Course 2 trainees, held at the Sri Lanka Army Ordinance Corps Auditorium, Kankesanthurai, Jaffna on Wednesday (22).


Army Commander calls on Indian Defence Minister & Service Chiefs

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shantha Kottegoda, in what was seen as a gesture of goodwill, bilateral understanding and promotion for award of more training opportunities for Sri Lankan soldiers was in India recently on a week-long official tour where he met Indian Defence Minister, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff and Indian Chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery swept the board in the recent Inter Regiment Athletic Meet of the Sri Lanka Army, Volunteer Force (SLAVF)-2005 at Sugathadasa Stadium.
