POLICE AFTER RELEASING the identification foto (see at left) of the suspect wanted in connection with LTTE’s attempted murder of former Pakistan’s High Commissioner in Colombo- 3 seeks public assistance to trace the whereabouts of the suspect, who is also the owner of the three-wheeler used for the explosion.

An attempt to grab a T-56 weapon of a Home Guard by an unidentified group of men was foiled in the general area of KANTALE during small hours on Monday (13 September 2004) when the Home Guard retaliated in self-defence, killing one of the intruders on the spot.


Pistol-shooting competition produces new records

The Team Championship in the recently-held Inter-Regiment Practical Pistol-shooting Competition organized by the Army’s Small Arms Association was won by the elite Army Commandos. But the overall championship (open section), went to Sergeant P. A.C Prasad of the Gajaba Regiment.

First naval chief assumes duties as new Chief Of Defence Staff

Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri, VSV, USP rcds, MSc (DS), psc, FCMI, who takes on the mantle of the office of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) today (15th September 2004), is the first Naval Chief to be elevated to this key appointment in the history of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.

Differently able wheel-chaired soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army, for the first time in the history of Wheelchair Tennis Championship Tournament abroad, brought honour and prestige to their motherland Sri Lanka at the recently ended Wheelchair Tennis Thai Open 2002 Tournament in Pattaya, Bangkok after bagging several trophies in major events.
