Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General L. P Balagalle after an illustrious career of nearly forty years of military service in the Sri Lanka Army relinquishes his duties as the 16th Commander of the Army on 30 June 2004. In his formal farewell speech delivered on Monday (28) afternoon at the Army Headquarters, retiring Lt. Gen Balagalle commended all his Senior Officers for the remarkable and marvellous cooperation extended to him during his tenure of office.

A GROUP OF PATRIOTIC people in Horana area headed by Mr. Vidura Wickramanayake, son of Hon Prime Minister, donated a large stock of necessary items to Victory Army hospital in Anuradhapura last week. Essential items for daily personal to be distributed among hospital inmates, biscuits and milk powder were some of the items delivered to the hospital. The donation was handed over by Mr. Wickramanayake to Major General A.S.M. Zaheer, Commander Forward Maintenance Area – North central on behalf of Commander Security Forces – Wanni Major General Jagath Jayasuriya.

The grand event will be held between 21-22 August 2004 at Talduwa Kelani Valley Club premises at Avisawella for the fourth successive year, it was announced at a Press briefing at Regimental Headquarters, Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers on Wednesday (28) afternoon.
