Russians on fact-finding mission to Jaffna

Mr. Alexey Shebarshin, Ambassador for Russia with Mr. Alexander N. Komissarov, Second Secretary for the Russian Embassy was recently on tour to the Jaffna peninsula in order to take account of the ground realities.


Civilians Give Information about Claymore Mine

AMPARA: ON INFORMATION GIVEN BY A CIVILIAN IN KALMUNAI AREA, the Police have recovered a claymore mine along with a detonator and 50 meters of flexible wire hidden inside a bush from PANDIRIPPU-NAYAPATTAMUNA road around 11.30 a.m. on Saturday (24).


LTTE Pistol Men Kill Two Army Soldiers

VAVUNIYA: LTTE TERRORISTS SHOT and killed two Army soldiers on picket duties at KURUMANKADU on VAVUNIYA-MANNAR road Saturday (24) around 2.15.p.m.. The two soldiers, Private K.G. RUKMAN WARNAKULASOORIYA and Private D.M DISSANAYAKE died due to LTTE pistol firing. A cordon and search operation is in progress. The dead bodies were taken to the VAVUNIYA hospital. The VAVUNIYA Police are conducting investigations.


MINISTER WICKREMANAYAKE VISITS AHQ AND MILITARY HOSPITAL

Deputy Minister of Defence and Minister of Buddha Sasana, Public Security, Law and Order Hon. Rathnasiri Wickremanayake arrived at the Army Headquarters (AHQ) Thursday (24) morning on a formal visit.


APPOINTMENTS SENIOR OFFICERS

The Commander of the Army has approved the cessation of appointments / attachments and new appointments / attachments of the under mentioned Senior Officers with effect from dates stated against their names.


MORE OFFICERS FROM SLMA PASS OUT

They were subsequently to join different regiments and battalions of the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force and Volunteer Force. In addition, two Officer Cadets from Bangladesh, who also received their training at the SLMA also passed out on the same occasion while their High Commissioner for Sri Lanka looked on. They are to leave for their motherland to join Bangladesh Security Forces after this graduation.

LTTE Suicide Bomb Kills Three Army Personnel And Injures Several Others

COLOMBO: DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE SRI LANKA ARMY, MAJOR GENERAL PARAMI KULATUNGE and three others were killed when an LTTE suicide bomber on a motorcycle exploded himself around 7.45 a.m. today (26) close to PANNIPITYA junction, about 17 km away from Colombo City.


Major General DVSY Kulatunge Appointed To Overlook As DCoS

MAJOR GENERAL DVSY KULATUNGE RSP USP ndc psc, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Forces (SLAVF) has been appointed by the Commander of the Army to overlook duties of the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCoS), who was killed in the suicidal bomb explosion on Monday (26). In addition to the office of the DCoS, Major General Kulatunge is to overlook duties as Adjutant General until further notice.


New CDS Reviews Security In Jaffna

THE NEWLY APPOINTED Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera, in the company of Major General N. Mallawaarachchi, Chief of Staff of the Army, was in Jaffna on Monday (26) on a fact-finding mission vis a vis security measures in the peninsula. The visiting military team at Security Forces Headquarters in Jaffna held a brief discussion with Divisional Commanders of 51 and 52 Divisions, Rear Admiral J.H.U. Ranaweera, Naval Commander for North, Mr. H.M.B. Ambanwela, Deputy Inspector General of the Police and other Senior Officers with a view to taking stock of security developments.
