SLNG, Army Karate champions 2004

Inter Regiment Karate Tournament, another grueling event of the army sports calendar, took place on 16 and 17 of June at the Panagoda Army Physical Education School. Contestants from thirteen Regiments including Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps vied for the trophy exhibiting their high mental and physical strength in the field of sports as they did in the battlefield during decades long war fought in north and east.


Soldiers help those stranded

Soldiers, based in Jaffna peninsula came forward to provide food and drinks for thousands of stranded pilgrims returning from Wattappalai Kannaki Amman Kovil festival in un-cleared areas since transport and normalcy in the area remained disrupted when they were homebound due to a protest staged against the killing of journalist Mr. Nadeshan in the east.


Army coordinates two-day clinic

Colombo SUCCESS organization was recently in Vavuniya to conduct a special two-day long Medical and Eye Clinic for the benefit of villagers in Alagalle, Ulukkulam and Nelukkulam villages.


Army ruggerites emerge victors once again

CH & FC teams, regardless of their many unbroken records, suffered a humiliating defeat on Saturday (19) at the Army grounds when the Army ruggerites crushed their rivals during their encounter.


Two more AIPT courses completed successfully

Two more batches of Officers and Other Ranks, who followed the Advanced Infantry Platoon Training (AIPT) course at Illekadu AIPT school passed out recently after their graduation at Eluthumaduvaval.


Ministry of Defence Denies Attack on PESALAI St. Mary’s Church

Security Forces strongly deny pro LTTE media reports that the Navy lobbed a hand grenade inside St. Mary’s Church in PESALAI causing one death and injuring 44. This is yet another attempt by pro LTTE media to discredit the Government and tarnish the image of the Security Forces. In spite of PESALAI being a heavily populated area, Tamil Tigers fired heavy weapons like Motars, Machine guns and RPGs towards Army, Navy and Police detachments located in the vicinity of the Church over two hours. LTTE fired both from sea and land causing chaos and wounding many civilians in the area. According to security forces around 40 civilians, 30 male and 9 females were wounded under LTTE fire. Six critically wounded civilians were transferred to ANURADHAPURA hospital. A full scale investigation is underway.


LTTE Explosion On Water Bowser Kills Three More Policemen

VAVUNIYA: THREE POLICEMEN WERE KILLED when Tamil Tiger terrorists detonated a claymore mine blasting a bowser carrying water to DUTUWEWA Police station on the VAVUNIYA – KEBITHIGOLLEWA road today (18) about 10.15 a.m.. The victims have been identified as Sergeant L. Y. Sugathapala (PS 23218), Police Constable J. A. Jayawardena (PC 30184) and Police Constable M. K. G. Rathnayake (PC 46668). Army and Police are conducting search and clear operations. The SLMM was to be informed.


School children in government held areas forced to attend protest march by LTTE

A large number of uniform clad school children were seen marching in protest campaign organized by the LTTE in Jaffna on Thursday (17) morning.


Commander calls on Inspector General of Police

Lieutenant General S. H. S Kottegoda, Commander of the Army paid a courtesy call on the Inspector General of Police Mr. Indra de Silva on Friday (16) at his office, Police Headquarters in Colombo.
