The Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers celebrated its 53rd anniversary on 9th November 2004. Since their inception of Corps, the Sri Lanka Engineers have rendered a yeoman service to the Sri Lanka Army and to the country at large. They have successfully carried out numerous military operational tasks as well as a large number of major national development projects.
Special Forces of the Sri Lanka Army, true to their widely recognized talents in the field of warfare and elsewhere, marked a new record on Tuesday (30) when they were adjudged the Champions in the Inter-Regiment Tae Kwon Do Championship – 2004 (Novices) division, held at Army Headquarters grounds.
Major General A. K Jayawardhana (Retd) RWP RSP USP rcds psc who hitherto held the office of the Governor for North & East, was appointed the new Defence Secretary, Ministry of Defence with effect from 01st December 2004 after retirement of Mr. Cyril Herath.
Major General G. S. C Fonseka RWP RSP rcds psc, who hitherto functioned as Commander Security Forces, Jaffna assumed office as new Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) on Tuesday (09 December 2003) amidst blessings of religious dignitaries and Senior Officers who graced the simple but dignified ceremony. His relinquishment as Commander Security Forces, Jaffna was in line with his seniority in service to receive this prestigious appointment as Commandant (SLAVF). He succeeds Major General A. M. C.W. B. Seneviratne USP ndc psc, who recently took office as Deputy Chief of Staff.
The lions in the Army took away the lion\'s share in the recently concluded Army Wrestling Championship for the second successive year beating seven Regiments that vied in the encounter displaying their strength of muscles.
The second batch of four Officers and ninety-five Other Ranks, on completion of their Special Infantry Operational Course (SIOC), passed out in a grand ceremony held at the Palaly Air Force Grounds on 10th December 2003.
Major General S.H.S. Kottegoda, Chief of Staff - Sri Lanka Army relinquished his office of the Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) at Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) in Panagoda Army Cantonment on Friday (12) morning.
Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka after he took office as 18th Commander in the Army took time off during the weekend (11th December 2005) to pay obeisance to the sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of Tooth Relic) in Kandy and receive blessings from the two Maha Nayakes (prelates) of Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters on his new appointment.
