Tamil Tiger slain WO Navarathne Rajah leaves behind his wife &; two children

WARRANT OFFICER II (WO II), S. Navarathne Rajah of the Sri Lanka Army, who was brutally slain by Tamil Tigers on Wednesday (14) morning in Batticaloa took leave of his bereaved family members, fellow-soldiers and the Nation on Thursday (15) at a simple funeral ceremony at Pudur public cemetery with full military honours.

Slain Warrant Officer II S. Navarathne Rajah, father of two small children was born on 10 September 1967 in Batticaloa and completed his primary and secondary education at Batticaloa Maha Vidyalaya. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer II from the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He joined the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 28 July 1996 with a view to safeguarding the territorial integrity and the unitary status of his motherland at the height of Tamil Tiger terrorist activities.

Upon receipt of military training at Kallady and Katukeliyawa Army Training Centres, he was attached to the 9th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG). He was a sports lover who played football and volleyball.

During his career, he followed several military Courses and completed them successfully.

He leaves behind his wife, Mrs. V. Thilakamadi and two children, N. Nidushan (07) and N. Nadushan (03) of No. 119/4, Hospital Road, Batticaloa
