NEW NURSERY AT DIYATALAWA GARRISON OPENED

Recent opening of a new nursery for the benefit of kiddies of Army personnel at the Military Garrison at Diyatalawa was to fulfil one of long-felt requirements of the families of Army Officers and Other Ranks resident in the area.

Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Army, presided by Mrs Gnana Balagalle patronized the newly-constructed nursery project at Diyatalawa on an initiative taken by the Area Commander and the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy Brigadier J. Jayasuriya USP psc.

This modern and well-equipped new nursery, built within a short span of three months, registered twenty children of Army personnel for admission on the very first day it was declared open by Mrs. Gnana Balagalle, President, Seva Vanitha Unit at Army Headquarters.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held in June and construction of the new building was managed by the Diyatalawa Garrison Engineer and his staff, and was also closely supervised by Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President and members of the Ladies' Club of the Area Headquarters.

Brigadier Jayasuriya, followed by Mrs. Iromi Ranasinghe, wife of Lt. Colonel S. Ranasinghe laid the foundation stone for construction

At the opening ceremony, Mrs Balagalle cut the ribbon at auspicious time, unveiled the plaque and lit the traditional oil lamp before she registered the first child for admission. Brigadier J. Jayasuriya, Mrs Jayasuriya, Lt. Col. S. Ranasinghe, Mrs I. Ranasinghe, Lt. Col. A. Jayasekera, several senior Officers, soldiers and mothers of kiddies were present at the inaugural ceremony.
