SLLI Regimental Center Opens Its New Corporals' Club


The inaugural opening of the newly-constructed Corporals’ Club at the Regimental Headquarters (RHQ), Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), Panagoda on Friday (21) was graced by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Chrishanthe De Silva.

The two-storied building where more than 175 members can be accommodated at a time was a collective effort of SLLI all rankers.

This newly constructed Corporals’ Club is one of the few projects initiated for the welfare of SLLI soldiers by Major General Amal Karunasekara, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI.

The day’s itinerary got underway after Major General Amal Karunasekara, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI warmly received the visiting Army Chief on arrival. In accordance with military formalities, he reviewed the Guard Turnout at the entrance to the RHQ SLLI premises and afterwards the Guard of Honour, accorded to him. He received the salute from the SLLI troops after reviewing of the parade.

Afterwards, 94 children of SLLI officers and other rankers who excelled in Grade 5 scholarship examination - 2014 received incentives and prizes during an awarding ceremony at the RHQ SLLI Conference Hall from the Commander of the Army, the day’s Chief Guest.

After the scholarship awarding ceremony, the Commander of the Army ceremonially opened the new Corporals’ Club and inspected the facilities available at the new building.

The visiting Army Chief then addressed 125 officers and 800 other rankers at the Russel Hain Grounds and highlighted the importance of maintaining discipline at all levels.

Major General Amal Karunasekara, Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI together with many SLLI senior officers and other rankers attended the ceremony.
