President, Minister &;amp; Commander Participate in Awareness 'Marathon Run'


With the motive of creating awareness on conservation of energy and assisting the national economy by cutting down thumping costs on imports, the Ministry of Power and Energy on Saturday (16) early morning, initiated a ‘Marathon Run’ at the Independence Square with the participation of HE the President Maithripala Sirisena as the Chief Guest.

The 3.7 km long run wended its way around the Independence Square, attended by President Sirisena, Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, State Secretaries, Ministry officials and employees, Tri Service Commanders, Senior service Officers, renowned athletes, service personnel and a gathering of more than 3500 participants who enjoyed the event.

President Sirisena in a brief talk to the event underlined the importance of the awareness on energy conservation and challenges in this sector lying ahead. Afterwards, all of them read out the energy conservation pledge and assured support to this national project. Symbolizing the inauguration of the run, President Sirisena, joined by Minister Ranawaka, afterwards released a bunch of multi-coloured balloons to the skies.
