Thrill &;amp; Sensation Dominate in SLMA-Organized 'Fox Hill Super Cross-2015'

Sri Lanka’s No. 1 ‘Diyatalawa Fox Hill Super Cross’, the year’s biggest motor racing event  that brings thousands of fans to the chilly garrison town, ended on Saturday (18) evening with several distinguished guests, including Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva and his spouse, Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), present.

This year’s event, held for the 23th consecutive year, in its unique track of 2 km long, organized by the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in coordination with the Sri Lanka Auto Sports Drivers Association (SLADAR), coincides with the ‘Wasantha Senakeliya’  in Nuwara Eliya.

Commander of the Army, on arrival at the venue was warmly received by Brigadier R.W.W.A.D.B. Rajaguru, Commandant, SLMA before he was ushered to the grand stand. Raising of the National Flag and a two-minute silence in memory of fallen War Heroes signaled the start of the mammoth and exciting event.

Proceeds from this mega event that collects the country’s cream of racing and riding experts to one single location every year are used to raise professional standards and infrastructure facilities of the Army’s premier seat of military learning and training, the SLMA in Diyatalawa.

More than 250 riders and racing veterans participated in the event as some 23 racing and riding competitions added thrill and sensation to the grand event that drew a record number of spectators exceeding more than 25,000. For the last 22 years, ‘Diyatalawa Fox Hill Super Cross’ has earned the reputation of being the most thrilling racing event in the country and funds thus collected enabled the SLMA to elevate their infrastructure facilities to be on par with other Military Academies in the Region.

Presentation of trophies and merit awards was made by Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva and several other sponsors. Mr Harin Fernando, Chief Minister for Uva Province also witnessed the spectacle.
