Sri Lankan Peace Keepers in Haiti Celebrate 67th Independence Day


UN Peace Keepers of the Sri Lankan contingent (20th SRIBAT) serving under the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) celebrated the 67th Independence Day on Wednesday (4).

The ceremony commenced with the arrival of Colonel Asoka Wijenayaka, Contingent Commander, 20th SRIBAT at the main flag post where he hoisted the National Flag, amidst rhythmic beats of Magul Bera (auspicious drums).

Afterwards the Sri Lankan contingent sang the Sri Lankan National Anthem by filling all patriotic hearts with pride of being an independent nation, rich with age-old, unmatched cultural ethos.

Meanwhile, the 20th SRIBAT organized a blood donation campaign to provide blood requirements of the Blood Bank, Haiti at SRIBAT Headquarters, Regional Camp. 141 members of SRIBAT donated their blood and made the event a success.
