Stage Set for Upcountry 'Searchlight Tattoo' Beginning Friday

Sri Lanka Army’s ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ coloured by more than 4000 troops, is to be staged for the year’s second time at Gampola, beginning August 29 - 31.
 
A press briefing at Gampola, headed by Major General Manoj Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) was told that special arrangements, have been made for school students in Gampola-Kandy areas as well as children, spouses and relatives of affected War Hero families, to view the Army ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ gratis on Thursday (28), a day particularly reserved only for them.
 
The Army ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ is to begin at 2.00 p.m. on all four days and holding of the Tattoo at provincial level, coincides with the government’s policy of taking major public events for display, away from the capital, making provincial people to get the maximum advantage of the show.
 
On Thursday (28), a special train leaving from Kandy railway station at 12.00 noon is to facilitate students and Ranaviru family members reach Gampola before 2.00 p.m. for its commencement, the media briefing was told.
 
The Army ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ at Gampola highlights an assortment of undisputed skills of Army professionalism, coupled with displays of simulation attacks and rescue of hostages, free fall parachute jumps, dog shows, demonstration of constructing the Bailey bridge, assembling of the artillery guns and jeeps, stunt riding, talent show of disable War Heroes, Ranabera and Bugle displays, physical training, fireworks, model attacks on enemy strongholds, drills, etc.    
 
This mega spectacle at provincial level showcases multiplicity of different multitasking nature of the Army at one specific venue and serves a tribute to the people in the upcountry.
 
The formal opening ceremony will take place on Friday (29), headed by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest for the inauguration.
 
On the second day (30), Hon Minister of Sports Mr Mahindananda Aluthgamage inauguarates the military spectacle.
 
Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to Ministry of Defence and Urban Development as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Commander of the Army, will ceremonially open the final day (31) of the Army ‘Searchlight Tattoo’.
 
Entry tickets can be purchased at the main entrances to the ground at Gampola and large crowds are expected, the media briefing was told.
 
Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, Director Media, Brigadier N. Ranawana, General Officer Commanding, 11 Division, Brigadier M.M Kithsiri, 111 Brigade Commander and Brigadier S.P Seneviratne, 112 Brigade Commander, were present at the media briefing on Monday (25).   
 
Earlier in April in this year, the ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ was staged on the directions of the Commander of the Army at Kurunegala Welagedara ground with the participation of a massive crowd.
