100 Jaffna Students Receive Army Schols

Barely a few hours after the new Jaffna Commander, Major General Udaya Perera took reins, he was invited to distribute 100 scholarships among school children, housed at Konapulam Open Welfare Centre (Muham) in Konapulam on Friday (10).

Under this programme, each student is to receive Rs 500/= as a scholarship every month for their studies until the child grows up. The new Jaffna Commander delivered pass books with Rs 500/= to each student, selected from low-income families who gathered at Konapulam Vairavar Temple for the special ceremony.

Delivering a brief address to the occasion, Major General Perera outlined the importance of learning while giving due value to the scholarships, being shared with those children. He also assured his best services to the people of Jaffna.  
 
Rev. Fr. Wasanthan of Inuvil Church of South India, Divisional Secretary Thelippalai Mr. Sri Mohanan and Ms Mathista of Mavadipuram Nadeswara Vidyalaya, a beneficiary, spoke a few words to the gathering and praised Army efforts towards enhancement of education in Jaffna.

General Officers Commanding 51, 52 and 55 Divisions, Commander 513 Brigade, Senior Army officers and villagers were present.
