Enshrinement of Buddha's sacred relics, placement and unveiling of the gold-plated pinnacle atop the newly-built Dagoba (pagoda) at Mankulam Sri Sugatha Viharaya in Kilinochchi,took place on Thursday (17) early morning, preceded by an all-night Pirith chanting, the previous night (16).
Security Force Headquarters-Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN),fully supported the construction of this new pagoda at the request of the temple incumbent, Ven Hingurakande Sumana Thera since it is place of buddhist worship with a long history, but remained totally dilapidated for more than thirty years after terrorism for separation commenced in the North.
Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake as the Chief Guest graced the memorable ceremony at the invitation of the Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-KLN together with other senior officers.
At the auspicious 5.58 minute in the morning, sacred relics were enshrined into the pagoda, followed by placement of the pinnacle and subsequent unveiling of the same by the Chief Guest and the Commander of the Army, amid Pirith Chanting and blessings invoked by members of the Maha Sangha, present at the premises.
Offer of breakfast, "Heel Daana" and Pirikara to the monks and all attendees at the Vihara premises and the conduct of "Daham Hamuwa" (meeting for religious purposes), added a momentous chapter to the ceremony, attended by a large gathering of devotees.
The new Pagoda was afterwards offered the first Buddha Pooja as everybody lined up in devotion with symbolic offerings. The offer of alms to the Maha Sangha and transfer of merits to everyone culminated the morning ceremony.
A special illumination pooja, the same evening in the premises were to bring the two-day ceremonies to an end. The all-night Pirith chanting ceremony on Monday (14) evening was attended by the Commander of the Army and many other Army officers and civilians, including Major General Udaya Perera. SFHQ-KLN troops and Engineer Service Regiment troops lent their expertise for the construction.
