New SFHQ-West Commander Assumes Duties


Major General A.K.S Perera assumed office as the new Commander, Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) at his office in the Panagoda Army Cantonment on Thursday (August 15) during a simple ceremony.

A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour soon after his entry into the premises greeted him in accordance with military formalities before he participated in religious observances of Buddhist faith in the company of senior officers, Mrs Sumeda Perera, his two children and several others.

As members of the Maha Sangha commenced chanting Seth Pirith and invoking blessings on his new appointment, Major General A.K.S Perera placed his signature for an official document, signifying the acceptance of his office. Giving a symbolic importance to the day, the new Commander afterwards was invited to plant a tree sapling in the complex.

Setting out his scope of work and duties, Major General Perera addressed the troops and outlined the importance of working as a team for the prosperity of the country and promotion of the Army image.

Major General A.K.S Perera during his 33 year of service after his enlistment to the Army in 1980 has to-date held a number of key appointments in the organization. Those include Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), Military Spokesman of the Ministry of Defence, Colonel of the Regiment, Gajaba Regiment, Colonel of the Regiment, Special Forces, Adjutant, Kotelawala Defence University, Commandant, Army Training School and a number of similar service appointments.

Major General Perera has also been awarded Weera Wickrema Vibhushanaya (WWV), Rana Wickrema Padakkama (RWP), Uttama Seva Padakkama (USP) and several more medals.
