Elevating the newest wellness resort, ‘Abimansala-2’ for dependent War Heroes, now ready for inauguration at Wilpitawatta, Kamburupitiya to international standards, the new inmates are to be provided with state-of-the-art electric cars for mobility within the premises, thanks to a personal initiative, taken by the Commander of the Army during a recent visit to China.
The first four of those electric cars, including a specially-made ambulance-type one, were brought down for inspection and observation of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Tuesday (16) morning before those electric cars are delivered to the new ‘Abimansala-2’ at Kamburupitiya after Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers conduct specific quality assessments and test runs.
‘Brave Hearts’, the Seva Vanitha Army Branch’s (SVAB) flagship fund-raiser for ‘Abimansala’ projects, has released a sum of about Rs 3.5 million for this project of unprecedented nature in Sri Lanka as it could be the first time such facilities are made accessible to heroes of our times for mobility or the entire disable community in the country in general.
‘Abimansala-2’, the wellness resort for Southern Province-based dependent War Heroes, is to be opened shortly by HE the President as the pioneer who conceptualized this special project, considering greatness of those War Heroes who have sacrificed their legs and limbs for defence of the motherland.
The ‘Brave Hearts’ project in the future expects to get down several more of those Chinese electric cars for the use of inmates at Attidiya Mihindu Seth Medura and Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala-1’ where over 100 dependent War Heroes, now remain housed for rehabilitation, therapeutic treatment, rest and recreation, etc.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, during his recent visit to China as a guest of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), deviated a little away from his hectic itinerary and attached importance to another humanitarian cause, on behalf of all those bed-ridden and dependent War Heroes of our times. That was to find a suitable supplier of those modern electric cars to Sri Lanka to suit special disable requirements of those dependent War Heroes at reasonable price.
