Mannar District Grade 5 Schol Recipients Hailed &;amp; Rewarded


The award of special gifts and appreciation of excellence of 124 Mannar students who topped in the recent Grade 5 Scholarship Examination results, took place on Friday (5) at Sittivinayagar Hindu National School, Mannar.

The mammoth ceremony to award monetary gifts, school accessories and savings deposits to these 124 students, was initiated by troops of the 54 Division on the instructions of its General Officer Commanding Brigadier M.A.M Dias.

The programme, attended by over 500 civilians, including the beneficiaries received patronage from National Insurance Trust, Sampath Bank, Seva Lanka Foundation and Walodayam organization for scholarships and purchase of gifts to these little children.

Clergy of major denominations, Mannar Educational Zone Director, Madu Educational Zone Director, Principals of respective schools, teachers, parents, recipients, senior Army officers and a gathering of civilians witnessed the award ceremony, headed by Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W).

Of those 124 best students, 50 who scored the highest aggregates received a deposit of Rs 2000/= in cash in addition to other gifts, inclusive of school accessories.

Major General Perera in a brief address to the occasion hailed the 54 Division Headquarters for its prioritized focus on improvement and promotion of education in the Mannar district while launching multifarious education oriented supportive programmes, meant for school students who are largely from remote areas.

Brigadier A.K.P Wickramasinghe of the SFHQ-W, Brigadier A Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, Brigade Commanders, senior officers and several unit commanders from respective school areas attended the ceremony.

54 Division Headquarters organized a special packet of refreshments to all those who were present.
