Curtains Come Down on 'Exercise Cormorant': Army's New Technically Sound GPS Tracking System Impresses Commander

Minutes after the closing ceremony of the 16-day long multinational 'Exercise Cormorant Strike III' at Minneriya Army cantonment Monday (24) morning, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jaysuriya, impressed with the successful conduct of the event, was invited to view the most modern technical equipment at the Operations Room of the Exercise which bore the responsibility of the mega event in its entirety.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya, taking a close look at the Operation Room's most modern Global Positioning System (GPS) Fleet Tracking System which was made available exclusively to the Exercise for the first time in the Army's history,  expressed his deep pleasure and appreciation for the use of the accessory for smooth run of the event, together with 40 foreigners of respective Armed Forces. The sophisticated equipment provides a wide space coverage with all necessary directing signals.

On the same occasion, the Commander directed the senior officers, accompanying him to immediately make arrangements to have those new state-of -the art GPS Fleet Tracking Systems be made available to  island-wide Army Training Centres since they proved highly productive and very-much time-saving  during such events or otherwise, considering its utility factor. He also made inquiries regarding its functionality and durability during the interaction with the OPs Room staff since it was the Commander himself who pioneered in introducing this System to the Army. 

Monday forenoon's  Closing Ceremony of the 'Exercise Cormorant Strike III' provided a fitting platform to all participants for exchange of assessments, rectifications  and overall evaluating remarks, summing up their contribution to the effectiveness of this Exercise of high international standards and relevance.
   
Military participants from five foreign military establishments, including two observers of India poured out their hearts to Sri Lankan organizers of the Exercise and expressed their warm feelings of contentment and meticulous planning of all components in the whole of the Exercise, extending greetings to the Commander and the Director in charge of the Exercise during these 16 days.

Representative foreign military officers of the 40-member strong contingent, taking part in the Exercise chose the venue to show their goodwill by presenting the Commander of the Army with special mementos and the Commander of the Army reciprocated the move. The Army Chief, in his brief address to the occasion, thanked particularly the Chiefs of respective armed forces for sending their members to Sri Lanka for participation in the event. This Exercise, the Commander added, would lay foundation for stronger and most healthy bilateral relations in the long run, strengthening regional cooperation and help resolve any security issues in a better footing of understanding and goodwill.

In the meantime, the Commander during his visit to the eastern sector did not forget to have a look at the Pasikuda Holiday Resort Complex, still under construction at Pasikuda for the benefit of both officers and other ranks in the Army. He saw for himself how construction work is being carried out on the site and exchanged a couple of views with Engineers of the Army before he left the place.
