Savings Made by Troops Used for Furniture Making at Thelippalai Mahajana Vidyalaya


Deshamanya Ken Balendra in response to a request, made by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) donated a stock of student desks and chairs to the value of Rs. 1.35 million to the famous Thelippalai Mahajana College.

The ceremonial symbolic delivery of the furniture stock, including 25 class chairs and 25 teacher tables took place at the school premises on Monday (25).

The reputed philanthropist, Mr Balendra recently constructed a three storied new building to the same school at a cost of Rs. 24 million at the request of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development.

The project, carried out purely by soldiers serving Jaffna saved Rs. 1 million of the estimated cost and Mr Balendra wanted that saving to be used for production of these essential pieces of furniture. A brief ceremony marked the formal hand-over of the stock.
