'Gota's War' First Copies Handed to President &;amp; Book's Protagonist

‘Gota’s War - The Crushing of Tamil Tiger Terrorism in Sri Lanka’, a book that encompasses history of terrorism, a wide range of issues, discussions and related decision-making moments, etc when the War for Peace in Sri Lanka was taking a decisive turn, saw its birth Monday (14) evening during a ceremony at Battaramulla Water’s Edge.
 
The first two copies of the book, authored by the famous feature writer cum journalist, C.A Chandraprema and published by late General Ranjan Wijeratne Memorial Foundation were presented to HE President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to Ministry of Defence and Urban Development who is the protagonist in the volume. Mr Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the President delivered the keynote address and Dr Sarath Amunugama, Senior Minister also delivered a special oration.

‘Gota’s War’ explains how both political and military establishments worked in unison, encapsulates how immediately after the Mahinda Rajapaksa government came into power, launched a dual approach towards the vexed problem of terrorism in the country while having negotiations and strengthening all-time preparedness simultaneously, appointment of tri-service officers to responsible offices, countering of anti-Sri Lanka developments that were taking place both at national and international arena, measures adopted for shift of public perception to be positive and victorious by introducing different media strategies, purchase of military hardware amidst constraints, etc and tabulates the series of methodologies that were adopted during the humanitarian operations, etc.  

President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Chief Guest and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the Guest of Honour on the occasion received the maiden copies from the author. Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Secretaries, Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force who were the invitees to the occasion also received copies of the book.  

The author sets apart a considerable space to trace historical roots of the conflict as well as unmatched military roles that were played by late war veterans, like Major General Wijaya Wimalaratne who provided an invaluable impetus to Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa when the latter at that period, was a military officer in the Sri Lanka Army.
