Troops of 612 Brigade Headquarters under the Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), expanding their community-oriented services further, recently launched a mini-scale loan programme for self-employment of civilians on Monday (23) and donated a large stock of school books and accessories to school children in Palaipani area.
The Army co-ordinated Palaipani Association for award of mini-scale commercial loans once again selected 24 low-income group families from Palaipani area and distributed a large sum of money among them on repayment basis during a brief ceremony at Palaipani Vidyalaya.
Among loan recipients was Ms Mohana Rani, a rehabilitated ex-combatant who received the loan facilities for the second consecutive time after she settled the first loan obtained under the same scheme upon successful conduct of her self-employment project.
Colonel K.N.S Kotuwegoda, Commander, 612 Brigade as chief guest attended the occasion and joined donating 3 push bicycles to the needy and school books and accessories to the school students at Palaipani Vidyalaya.
A large gathering of civilians and officers, including Major E.G.L.K.R Edirisinghe, Civil Affairs Officer, 612 Brigade and Commanding Officer, 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment witnessed the proceedings.
