611 Brigade's New Headquarters and 56 Div Battalion Training School Opened


In keeping with ongoing Army reforms, the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) has begun to locate its ground formations in different locations, making more and more civilians to return to their places of original residence.

As recent as March 15,   the 611 Brigade Headquarters ceremonially opened its newly constructed permanent camp complex at Ichchankulam, Vavuniya, following initiatives taken by the SFHQ-W on the instructions of the Commander of the Army. It earlier conducted its duties from a temporarily built camp at Tharanikulam, Vavuniya.

Major General A. K. S Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W at the invitation of Brigadier K. G. D Perera, Commander, 611 Brigade as the Chief Guest graced the auspicious opening of the new 611 Brigade Headquarters complex, giving pride of place to the religious observances and offerings. The Chief Guest was greeted with a Guard Turn Out plus a Guard of Honour on arrival at the new premises. He later on cut a ribbon, unveiled a plaque and warmed the new administrative office of the 611 Brigade amidst chanting of 'Seth Pirith' by members of the Maha Sangha.

After a cordial exchange of views with the troops present on the occasion, the Chief Guest inaugurated separate units in the Brigade and had a close look after going round the premises, accompanied by  61 Division General Officer Commanding, 611 Brigade Commander and a few other senior officers.

Meanwhile, Major General A. K. S Perera on March 5 attending another ceremony as the Chief Guest declared opened the new 56 Division Battalion Training School at Kangrayankulam North at the invitation of Brigadier N. A. P. C Napagoda and Lt Colonel S. P Sudharmasiri, Commandant at 56 Div Battalion Training School. The same training school earlier functioned in Kokeliya area where fast resettlement, development and infrastructure improvement are taking place.

The new Battalion Training School, now housed after complete renovation and constructions in the infamous  former LTTE's  'Velvan Base', terrorist training complex at Kanagarayankulum north is fully equipped with Officer and Other Rank dormitories, Rest and Recreation Rooms and all other amenities.

After the ceremonial opening, the Wanni Commander together with Senior Officers toured 561 Brigade Area and inspected formations in the area and instructed accordingly for further improvement. The 561 Brigade Commander's official residence was also opened by Major General Perera during the same.
