Officer Training Academy in Gaya Welcomes Visiting Army Commander


Lieutenant General Vijai Sharma, Commandant, Officer Training Academy (OTA) in Gaya, India, together with several OTA senior officers, extended a warm welcome to the Sri Lankan Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on Wednesday (7) when the latter visited the OTA at the invitation of its Commandant.

The visiting Sri Lankan military delegation, headed by the Army Chief Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, now in Delhi at the invitation of General V.K Singh, Chief of Army Staff in Indian Army, was expected to attend several military events during their sojourn in India.

Wednesday’s (7) discussions at OTA, the most recently opened India’s second academy for training military officers for short-service commission with the visiting Sri Lankan Commander, focused largely on possibilities of exchanging training programmes between the two organizations to suit basic skilled training, attuned with latest technological advancements where officers are enabled to serve as professionally skilled leaders of a modern Army in the future.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya during his interaction requested the OTA to explore possibilities of sending a portion of their trainee officers to Sri Lankan military training establishments in the future for diverse training programmes since the Sri Lanka Army after its 30 year-long war, has much to offer to the world by way of its battlefield experiences and warfare.     
The OTA’s pioneering architect, Lieutenant General Vijai Sharma who himself is a highly competent officer of the Indian Corps of Engineers, thanked the visiting Sri Lankan delegation for offer of training assistance to the Indian Army and the good relations being maintained.  

The Sri Lankan military delegation, led by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army is comprised of Major General Kumar Herath, Adjutant General, Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya and a few other senior officers.      

Earlier, the visiting Commander of the Army called on Indian Army’s Chief of Army Staff, General V.K Singh, Air Chief Marshal N.A.K Browne, Chief of Air Staff, Indian Air Force, Admiral Nirmal Verma, Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Naval Staff, and Lieutenant General S.K Singh, Vice Chief of Army Staff, Indian Army, Indian Army’s second senior most officer at their separate offices in New Delhi.
