Unmatched Roles of War Heroes Held in Esteem Providing Technically Devised New Three-Wheelers

The unmatched and priceless commitment of tri-service War Heroes who had sacrificed their legs and limbs in defence of the motherland while fighting separatist terrorists were held in high esteem and their contribution revered once again when the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) jointly provided one more consignment of 180 specially devised three-wheelers to War Heroes during a ceremony at MoD grounds Friday (18) morning.

To coincide with HE, the President’s birth day and his assumption of office, those   new three-wheelers given on concessionary payment basis to disable War Heroes in the Army, Navy and Air Force were distributed by Hon. D.M Jayaratne, Prime Minister, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army before a host of distinguished invitees including Hon Namal Rajapaksa (MP), Hon Lohan Ratwatte (MP), Mrs Padma Wettewa, Chairperson, Ranaviru Seva Authority, Navy and Air Force senior officers.

The conceptual project, mooted by Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development has so far given away more than 1500 three-wheelers to disable War Heroes in the past two years as a token of recognition of their noble service to the country. Last year, HE the President himself distributed 100 such three-wheelers in November. This annual project is made possible by the RSA with the support of the MoD Ranaviru Seva Fund, government and private agencies and other donors, both here and abroad.

Friday (18) morning’s distribution of those 180 three-wheelers among War Heroes on three-year period concessionary installment payment basis sans any interest, enables those handicapped War Heroes to use them for their routine transport and other movement requirements without any hassle or inconvenience since the public transport services lack much-needed special technical requirements. Most of those beneficiaries included those who have been sent on retirement following disability or confined only to their home fronts on medical grounds.

Almost all those three-wheelers given away during this morning’s ceremony are equipped with special adjustments, technical accessories and other supportive elements that befit the physical disabilities of each recipient.

Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne was received on arrival by Mrs Padma Wettewa, senior MoD officials and other distinguished guests.
