Commander Meets Student Officers at OCDC &;amp; Reviews Progress

The Army’s maiden Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC), affiliated to the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA), Diyatalawa is to be opened shortly in Buttala with the support it receives from the Directorate of Training at Army Headquarters.

The location at Buttala for this academic purpose was gifted to the Sri Lanka Army by His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa soon after the ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition was held recently. Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa gave his blessings to the proposed centre.

The OCDC, the conceptual design proposed by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army who highlighted the need to prepare student officers for pre staff courses at Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), well in advance, expects to train about 50 at one intake before they receive enrolment to the DSCSC to read for the psc (passed staff collage) degree programme.

On Sunday (30), the Commander of the Army, paid a visit to the new OCDC site and saw for himself how the new OCDC complex was receiving final touches before its formal inauguration.

The OCDC that offers a novel experience to all officers, intending to do well in the sphere of their career planning during their service has been designed with a state of the art infrastructure that caters to academic, intellectual, professional, psychological and innovative requirements in the social matrix.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, during his brief stay at the OCDC, which has already begun its training, though it has still not been officially declared opened, reviewed different training modules and discussed improvements to such programmes to suit peacetime needs of the society at large.

As the final segment of his two-day tour, he was to meet student officers at Junior Command Course (JCC) and Junior Staff Course (JSC) at Diyatalawa and share views with them before delivering a brief address.
