With the sheer intention of quenching the thirst for knowledge of Jaffna students and other interested readers, a generous family from the South donated a volume of valuable books to the Jaffna library recently.
The donation coordinated by the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) was comprised of 1500 books including encyclopaedias, novels, famous story books for children and a rare collection of books for academic purposes.
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander SFHQ - J and staff officers of the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna earlier made requests from people and organizations here and abroad to contribute to restore the volumes in the Jaffna pubic library, once served as the ocean of knowledge to Jaffna intellectuals during its age old glory. The latest donation by Mr Vipula Wijeratne, Ms Nilmini Jayasinghe and Ms Menaka Jayasinghe of Nugegoda reached the Headquarters SF-J as a response to that request.
On behalf of the SFHQ-J, General Officer Commanding 51 Division Maj. Gen. Janaka Walgama and Lieutenant Colonel Deeptha Ariyasena handed over the consignment to library authorities on Tuesday (09).
