Army Rugby Receives Fillip from Milco Company

Sri Lanka Army Rugby received a welcome fillip on Friday (29) when Milco Company Limited as an organization that generally lends its helping hand for promotion of sports in Sri Lanka, offered year-round sponsorship assistance to the Army Rugby team.

This goodwill gesture of sponsorship was symbolically handed over to the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya this morning (29) by Mr Sunil Wickramasinghe, during a brief meeting the latter had at the Commander’s office.
 
Army ruggerites, reputed for their numerous encounters with island-wide leading rugby teams as well as by entering semi finals / finals in many a tussle, won the knock-out rugby championship in 1975 and 1979 carrying away the Clifford Cup. During 2000-2002, the Army team emerged runners-up.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya acknowledging the symbolic sponsorship for this year which would continue for three more consecutive years, thanked the Milco Company for its thoughtfulness and generosity.

Mr S. Saravanabavan, Marketing Manager, Milco Company Ltd, Brigadier Rohana Bandara, Director of Sports and Colonel (Retd) Saliya Udagama, Technical Advisor, Army Rugby Team were present at the time of the donation.
