Multiple Community Oriented Projects Launched in Jaffna

The Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J), as one more assignment of its ongoing community-oriented projects of the Civil Military Coordination (CIMIC) center recently distributed uniforms and clothes, worth over Rs 800,000/= among carefully selected Jaffna students and denizens.

The CIMIC programme organized by Uduvil-based 513 Brigade saw 640 uniform sets were distributed among 320 children of 10 pre-schools in Vaddukkoddai, Araly, Sandilipay, Alaveddy, Anakottai and Manipay areas.

Similarly, at the request of the office of the civil affairs at 513 Brigade, clothes to the value of Rs. 500,000/= were given away, thanks to the sponsorship, extended by Brandix Garments at Seeduwa on the same day. In addition, selected children were given a pair of shoes each as the Army has been able to identify those children with such requirements in the area. The Army received a donation of Rs. 150,000/= from Dr. Paul Perera of Lions’ Club, Metropolitan Branch, Colombo for purchase of those shoes.

Meanwhile, the SFHQ-J initiated scholarship programme received another boost when ten more students in the 513 Brigade area were awarded scholarships. Each student on the same occasion received a pass book with an initial deposit of Rs 1500 /=, the sum those students will continue to receive every month continuously for two years. The goodwill shown by Mr Navaratne Raja, a reputed businessman in both Colombo and Jaffna enabled the execution of this programme for those children.

Around the same time, 25 families in the poultry industry received 250 chicks from the SFHQ-J as part of its economy and nutrition oriented projects in the area. The cost being Rs 50000/= was borne by Jaffna based Maheshwari Foundation.       

Meanwhile, soldiers of the 9th Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (9 SLNG) collectively contributed to purchase two wooden-cupboards and 200 books to the library at Sanguveli Government’s Mixed Tamil School. The donation cost the 9 SLNG soldiers over Rs. 30000/=. The donation was handed over to the school on the same occasion by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander SFHQ-J who graced the main ceremony at Manipay Pradeshiya Sabha auditorium as Chief Guest.

Religious leaders, General Officer Commanding 51 Division Major General Janaka Walgama, Deputy Director Animal Products and Health Mrs. V. Amirthalingam, Head of Business Unit, Brandix Garments Mr. Samal Dissanayake, Divisional Secretaries and senior Army officers were present in the ceremony where all these donations took place.
