The accidental discharge of a soldier’s weapon on Tuesday (8) forenoon while he was on duty in the general area of Thondamanaru, Jaffna injured a 17-year old youth who happened to be well known to the soldier in question.
Reports confirmed that the victim, Aruldas Ariyaratnam (17) of Sannadi Koviladi, Thondamanaru after sustaining injuries to his right shoulder was evacuated to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Hospital sources said the victim is out of danger and fast recovering at the time this report was filed. Military Police and Jaffna Police have initiated separate investigations.
