Thousands of people mostly in the Northern, North Central and Eastern Provinces were displaced and their crops destroyed due to floods and prevailing weather conditions in the country.
The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) with the able leadership of its President Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya reacting promptly to this situation launched a relief collection programme for these flood affected people all over the country.
At the initial place of this programme, the SVAB together with welfare unit of the IFS distributed Rs 450,000/= worth essential goods among the affected in Ampara area Friday (14). The items distributed included milk powder, noodles, biscuits, mineral water, paracetamol, etc.
Seva Vanitha Units of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Sri Lanka Engineers, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Military Intelligence Corps and Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers joined the SVAB for this worthy cause. With the assistance of Regimental Seva Vanitha Units, this project is due to be expanded to other areas such as Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Batticoloa.
