Swimming &;amp; Water Polo Inter Regiment Championship Concludes

SRI LANKA Army Inter Regiment Swimming and Water Polo Championship got under way at Army Headquarters Swimming Pool Complex during past two days (July 8-9).

Representing 17 Regiments, a record 200 competitors showed their colours and offered a tight challenge against their fellow-swimmers.

Disabled War Heroes too participated in this tournament giving a similar neck to neck competition as other ordinary swimmers. 

The invitation relay event which was strongly competed by, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Police drew the attention of spectators. Veteran Swimmers event was another attractive eye-catcher.

Sri Lanka Service Corps grabbed the Championship of the Swimming events and Sri Lanka Armoured Corps bagged the Runners-up trophy. Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment emerged Champions in Water Polo while Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps became the Runners-up.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya graced the event as the Chief Guest accompanied by the Chairman Sri Lanka Army Swimming and Water Polo Committee Major General C.P Gallage and many Senior Officers. The Commander distributed trophies to the winners at the presentation ceremony, held soon after the competition.
