Rehabilitated Tiger (LTTE) Youths Re-join Their Families

A LARGE number of young men and women who had been active members or supporters of the LTTE and later surrendered or fell into custody of the Security Forces found their new life subsequent to the rehabilitation offered to them by the government.

After initial inquiries, they were directed to the rehabilitation centre at Thelippalai in Jaffna under patronage and supervision of Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J). Many of them found opportunity to sharpen their skills at Technical College Jaffna which provided specially designed courses for them who, on completion of their training, went back to society to live a successful life.

Three such ex-LTTE members who received technical and language training at the Technical College were offered the opportunity to join their families on the instruction of Commander SFHQ (J) Major General L.B.R. Mark.

Sabarathnam Nishandam (31) of Velvettithurai and Sinnaman Subramaniam (51) of Kaitady had surrendered to the Security Forces claiming that they supported numerous LTTE criminal activities. Arulnation Jefteen (21) of Jaffna had received three month training from the LTTE in pistol handling and claymore explosion and surrendered to the Security Forces in 2007. Sabarathnam Nishandam and Arulnation Jefteen were trained as electricians while Sinnaman Subramaniam followed an English language course.

They were handed over to next of kin on Wednesday (07).
