Resettlement in Welioya to be Completed Next Month

THE resettlement of civilians in the Welioya area will be completed by the end of next month and the resettlement will be undertaken in the Kalyanipura, Morawewa and Gajabapura areas within the Welioya Divisional Secretariat Division, Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa said at the Welioya development and “Uthuru Wasanthaya” progress review meeting held at Mahaweli Community Training Centre in Welioya

He pointed out that the Government has been able to resettle the civilians and adopt measures to improve their livelihood due to the supreme sacrifices made by the gallant soldiers. Resources should also be granted to the civilians of these areas as done to those who are being resettled.

It is expected to complete the resettlement process before the commencement of the next Maha cultivation season.

Agreement was reached to provide 50 million rupees to the Padaviya local body in addition to the road reconstruction carried out under “Gama Neguma”. De-mining is in progress in Welioya and its environs.

It was also agreed to grant 100 million rupees each to reconstruct the road from Parakramapura to Janakapura and the Monarawewa–Otiyamale Road from Parakramapura to Ethawetunu Wewa. Electricity is to be provided to the entire area.

The Sampathnuwara Rural Hospital will be rebuilt and an ambulance will be provided. Two buses will be given to Kalyanipura. It was planned to rebuild the schools in the area. Tool kits worth 25,000 rupees will be given to build houses and tractors given at concessionary rates.
