    A group of students from the Jaffna Velanai Central College in Kayts recently had the rare opportunity of visiting HE, the President’s official residence, Temple Trees at Colombo 03 on the sidelines of an educational tour to the South. The tour, organized by the 17th Battalion Gemunu Watch (17 GW) serving Kayts, had 126 students, 13 teachers and 7 parents and covered many places of religious, social and cultural interests to tourists.This three-day education tour.....

    The second state of the art, ‘Abimansala’- type wellness resort for dependent Army War Heroes is to come up shortly at Wilpita, Kamburupitiya, thanks to the cooperation, extended by His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa to the Army in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Monday (14) afternoon went to Wilpita and received the firsthand glimpses of the picturesque 10-acre extent of land.....

  • 'Tharunyata Hetak' Spearheads Mammoth Medical Camp in Mannar


    The medical section of the ‘Tharunyata Hetak’, chaired by Hon Namal Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament (MP), together with 30 medical consultants, made for Mannar on Saturday (12) and conducted a well-attended clinic, attracting more than 2000 patients with various ailments and sicknesses.  541, 542, 543 Brigade Commanders in coordination with the Mannar Medical Officer of Health organized the mammoth humanitarian project under the guidance.....
  • 211 Brigade Anniversary Prioritizes Community -“ Oriented Projects


    Troops serving the 211 Brigade in Vavuniya under the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni, marked its 27th anniversary with a series of community-oriented projects of different nature continuously for three days (November 8, 9 & 10). A team of doctors and nurses from the Vavuniya hospital conducted a blood donation campaign in the 211 Brigade field hospital premises where over 202 Army personnel donated blood for the use of patients in Vavuniya hospitals.
  • 'Green Garden' Opened to Promote National Tree Planting Campaign


    Deyata Sevana,” the national tree planting campaign, spearheaded to coincide with His Excellency, President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday was inaugurated at the auspicious time of 09.01 a.m.Tuesday (15) at Pelawatte, Battaramulla, close to Parliament on Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship road. President Mahinda Rajapaksa gracing the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest, accompanied by a large gathering of Cabinet Ministers, Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, Secretaries, Commander of the Army, Inspector General of the Police and invitees, added a new significance to the whole concept of tree planting by declaring a 700-acre plot of land near Parliament as the ‘Green Garden,’ following an initiative taken jointly by Ministry of Environment and the Presidential Secretariat.    
     
  • SLSR New Recruits Passed Out In Military Ceremony


    283 newly recruited soldiers to the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) in the Army recently had their formal passing out parade (PoP) at Ambepussa SLSR Regimental Headquarters.The PoP of the 59th SLSR Recruit Course saw a special Guard of Honour plus a Guard Turnout, accorded to the chief guest, Lieutenant Colonel Kithsiri Liyanage Colonel Media at Directorate of Media.....
