    THE SUBJECT OF PATRIOTISM has many facets, more popularly, they emerge in gallantry, warfare against foes, victory, etc but true tenets of patriotism are overwhelmingly glorious as Adlai Stevenson once wrote, “Men who have offered their lives for their country know that patriotism is not the fear of something, it is the love of something”.   • Fifty Discarded Buses on Track Under -œUthuru Wasanthaya-

    A CO-ORDINATING conference in connection with the government’s development programme, “Uthuru Wasanthaya”, (northern spring) was held recently at the Jaffna library auditorium. The meeting, chaired by Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa was attended by senior administrative officials and administrators involved in projects. Fifty Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses of three northern depots, which remained non-operational due to technical failures and shortage of spare parts, had been brought back on track after repairs, the meeting was told.

  • 542 Brigade to Move Into New Building Complex

    542 Brigade Headquarters in Manthottam, Mannar is in the process of completing its new building complex using pre-fabricated technology in the first floor of the construction underway. Being the first of its kind built on a first floor, this complex houses the library, TV room, café, mess hall for other ranks, recreation club for non-commissioned officers and a few other units.
  • STF Finds Pistol & Ammo

    AMPARA: SPECIAL TASK FORCE (STF) troops attached to the KARATIVU STF camp following information conducted a search in the general area of KARAKADAPALLIYA and recovered one pistol, sixty rounds of ammunition and two hand grenades Saturday (2) around 7.30 p.m.. Those items were found from an abandoned toilet pit.

    The new 53 Division Headquarters complex, established in Inamaluwa, Dambulla was ceremonially opened this morning (15) by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva at the invitation of Major General Maithri Dias, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 53 Division.
  • Jaffna to Receive New Coconut Nursery

    PLANS are underway in Jaffna to set up a nursery for distribution of quality coconut saplings among civilians and planters in the peninsula. Priority in the distribution will be given to resettled families who will get three saplings per family.
