    The outgoing Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage paid a farewell courtesy call on his counterpart in the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake at Army Headquarters on Thursday (26) evening. The brief interaction saw the Commander of the Army, expressing his best wishes, presented a memento to the outgoing Navy Chief before the visiting Navy Commander was hosted to tea with other senior officers.

  • Uthuru Mituru Programme Set to Reconstruct Northern Railway

    THE reconstruction of the damaged railway stations beyond Vavuniya has been undertaken by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and several other ministers under the government’s ‘Uthuru Mituru’ programme on a request by Transport Minister Dulles Alahapperuma, Commercial Manager of the Sri Lanka Railways (SLR), Vijaya Samarasingha said.The railway track and all 30 stations beyond Vavuniya upto KKS had been totally damaged and the track was not in use for the past 25 years. The SLR had estimated that Rs. 14 billion is needed to run a train up to KKS from Vavuniya, he said.

Surrender of VELAYUDAM THAYANIDHI alias DAYA MASTER who has been playing a significant role in the LTTE terror outfit as the LTTE Media Spokesman for the last few years came about as a rude shock to the outfit and its expatriates who have been pumping hard currency into the LTTE coffers. Born in KILINOCHCHI on 3rd March 1956, DAYA MASTER was known as a vociferous spokesman for their organization.
