  • Headquarter 511 Brigade Organizes a Cardiac Camp at Kopay, Saves Kajenthini's Life

    Sri Lanka Army’s 511 Brigade in Jaffna in collaboration with Urumpirai Lions Club and Asiri Heart Care Center, organized a cardiac camp at Kopay Navalar Tamil Vidyalaya recently (18).The Camp secured a very high response form the general public where a recorded number of 583 attended for medical advices and treatments from neighbouring areas.

  • Trainees in Basic Media Course Awarded Certificates in Grand Ceremony

    With the sheer intention of providing a wider perspective and exposure to the fast changing subject of Mass Communication and Media, the Army Headquarters-based Directorate of Army Media jointly with the Government Information Department (GID) of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information, provided a one-month long Media training to a group of 47 Army personnel, for the first time in the Army history.
  • President, Minister & Commander Participate in Awareness 'Marathon Run'

    With the motive of creating awareness on conservation of energy and assisting the national economy by cutting down thumping costs on imports, the Ministry of Power and Energy on Saturday (16) early morning, initiated a ‘Marathon Run’ at the Independence Square with the participation of HE the President Maithripala Sirisena as the Chief Guest.

  • Two New 'Nenasala' Opened in Kilinochchi

    Two more ‘E Nenasala’ IT centres were set up at Mankulam and Paranthan areas with the objective of promoting IT knowledge among students and teachers in the Kilinochchi District.   • Army Begins Production of its own Furniture & Rejuvenates its Musical & Aesthetic Values, Shifting to a Spacious Location

    Trying to bring the elegant craftsmanship, inherent among Army tradesmen to the fore, the Army is to venture on the production of their own furniture on a large scale, following a notion suggested by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake after having assessed the colossal expenditure, incurred in the purchase of furniture to the Army on a regular basis.

    Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) officers and other rankers who turned athletes for the three-day long ‘Inter Regiment Athletic Championship Tournament - 2015’ that got off on Tuesday (14) at Diyagama Stadium, Diyagama, finished their year’s pinnacle of pride with a number of new athletic records on Thursday (16) evening amid rousing enthusiasm.

    MULLAITTIVU: ARMY troops engaged in clearing and search operations in the finally-cleared areas found and identified dead bodies of several more leaders of the terrorist outfit today (20), the Army said. They include VETTRI of the LTTE Intelligence wing, VINODAN and RAM KUMAR of the Intelligence attack wing, MANIMEKALA (KOMALI) the female leader of Intelligence, ANNA THURAI the political wing leader for BATTICALOA and RANGAN, a leader of the Sea Tigers wing.     

  • Eelam War IV: Tiger Captives Down to 7,900, Rehab Programme on Track

    Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation says LTTE cadres are being gradually released from government centres following rehabilitation in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. Brig. Ranasinghe, who succeeded Major General Daya Ratnayake, says their work is on track thereby allowing small groups of LTTE cadres to rejoin their families every month.In a brief interview with The Island on Sunday (July 25), Brig. Ranasinghe said that 7,948 ex-combatants, including about 1,100 females were still undergoing rehabilitation.

  • Troops Help Find Better Sources of Income to Villagers

    Hundreds of civilians living in Kokeliya, Semamadu, Karukkalkulam, Nambankulam and Kelebogaswewa areas, most of who are engaged in fishing as means of living will reap the benefits shortly since the 563 Brigade under the 56 Division in coordination with National Water Resources and Breeding Authority, had got more than 90,000 fresh water fish released into several lakes in the area.
