  • British High Commissioner Visits SFHQ-W


    During his recent visit to the North and Wanni, Mr Jhon Rankin, High Commissioner of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy call on the Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), Major General Boniface Perera in Wanni. The three-member team, including Mr Tom Soper, Second Secretary and Ms Priyadarshani Thillainathan, Visa Officer during their stay at the SFHQ-W premises, visited the construction site of the new Officers’ Mess in the compound.

    “KINDNESS will help you make friends,” the bold print hung on a lime green wall is the first thing that grips your attention as one enters the administration building at the Ambepussa rehabilitation centre for ex-child combatants. Tucked away in a lush green alcove, in Wahawita Ambepussa, about two and a half hours away from the capital Colombo the centre houses 76 children.

    'Popi Malak', an album dedicated to the memory of War Heroes, "Samaramu Api Ranaviruwo" with 27 songs, produced by Mass Media and Cultural Circle of the Sri Lanka Catholic Council was presented to Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army by Rev. Fr. Benedict Joseph, Director of Mass Media and Cultural Circle of the Sri Lanka Catholic Council.
  • New Graduands in Special Forces Receive Colours in PoP

    Special Forces Training School (SFTS) at Maduruoya adorned ceremonial garbs on Saturday (11) to bid goodbye and offer its greetings to eleven officers and four hundred and forty-three of the Special Forces during a passing out parade (PoP), dignified by the presence of Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army.     With the intention of educating both officers and other ranks on Reproductive Health and transmission of venereal diseases, a seminar organized by the Colombo Obstetrics and Gynaecology Institute took place recently at Panagoda Sri Bodhirajarama Temple premises at Panagoda, following initiatives taken by the Security Forces Headquarters-South.
  • Dubai Based Sri Lankans Offer Equipment to Military Hospital

    A COLLECTIVE effort made by a group of Sri Lankans living in Dubai donated a stock of medical equipment and sanitary facilities to Colombo Military hospital for the use of Army personnel became disable and still receiving treatment. Using funds collected by Mr. A.L. Christofelz with assistance of his Sri Lankan friends in Dubai, Lions’ Club in Polgasowita took the initiative to purchase and donate twenty bed-side saline stands.....

  • 2nd Cavalry Supercross Excites & Thrills Sports Racing Enthusiasts

    Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) organized ‘Cavalry Supercross’ which ventured into driving and riding stormed the new Pangolla racing track at Kurunegala Sunday (5) morning, amidst a sea of racing enthusiasts, headed by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. This fund-raising project of the SLAC on this 60 ft wide 1.4 km long gravel track with 5 corners saw its birth last year...

    Totally blind Lance Corporal Anjana Karunasiri of 8 Gajaba Regiment (8 GR) on Friday (12), began to live together with Nirasha Dulakshi of Rathnayakapura, Nikaweratiya in wedded bliss, in front of a distinguished gathering of well-wishers, including none other than the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, himself. War Hero, Lance Corporal Karunasiri as the final battle for peace was reaching its climax, received injuries in an LTTE mortar attack on 14th March 2009.....
