  • Recruit Under Compass Training Met with Train Accident & Succumbs to Injuries

    A recruit of Special Forces (SF) under training in the general area of Habarana succumbed to injuries after he collided with a night train while engaged in a compass training module during early hours of Saturday (31). The Recruit, H.W Kumara together with a few others under training was continuing with his target finding training using a compass when he met with this accident and received injuries after he was knocked down by the train.

  • Personal Rivalry Leads to Explosion

    KURUNEGALA: AN explosion was reported from UDAWALPOLA area in KURUNEGALA this morning around 6.45 a.m. According to available information, the explosion has occurred inside a vehicle transporting students to schools in KURINEGALA town. At least twelve students, eight girls and four boys have sustained minor injuries in the incident that took place closer to NISSANKA Vidyalaya on UDAWALPOLA road. The explosion inside the vehicle occurred as it was getting ready to move.

  • Prosecution Closes the Case

    The Court Martial – 2 probing charges against G.S.C. Fonseka resumed its sittings Monday (23) as scheduled. Prosecution closed the case this afternoon after the completion of recording evidence from all witnesses. Defence counsel appeared for the accused. The sittings will resume on 26th at 3.00 pm.

  • Release of 1000 Acres From HSZ Completed

    An extent of 570 more acres of land in Valali and Kankasanthurai South in the Grama Seva Division, Valikamam sector in the Jaffna peninsula were released by the Security Forces to the District Secretary for Jaffna Friday (10) morning for distribution among rightful owners. Under today’s phase, 397 acres from Kankasanthurai South and 173 acres from Valali in the Valikamam sector have now been released to the District Secretariat, thus completing the extent of 1000 acres assured by the Government.

    WANNI & EAST: ARMY TROOPS on their search and clear operations and de-mining groups operating in Wanni areas on Friday (18) recovered, eighty-five anti personnel mines, one anti tank mine, six 120 mm mortar bombs, eight hundred and twelve rounds of T-56 ammunition, two hand grenades, forty-six claymore mines weighing about 7.5 kg each and six claymore mines weighing about 15 kg each from the general areas of MANTHAI EAST, SINNAPANDIPARICHCHAN, ADAMPAN, IRANAMADU, MULLAYAWELI and UDAYARKATTUKULAM.
