  • Troops Warmly Welcome 'Padayathra' Pilgrims Trekking to Kataragama

     
    Troops serving Task Force - 3 at Akkaraipattu accorded a warm welcome to ‘Padayathra’ pilgrims, trekking up to Kataragama sacred place in connection with the Esala festival when they reached the check point of the Wildlife Department at Kumana on Monday (9). This annual feature, attended by about 100 pilgrims first observed religious performances at Okanda Kataragama Devalaya and reached the roadblock at Kumana where the Task Force - 3 troops provided them with meals and refreshments.
     
  • Kataragama 122 Brigade Holds Mobile Clinic for Cardiac Patients


    Specialist Cardiologist, Dr Vivek Gupta of the Asiri Group of Hospitals responded positively to the request, projected by the 122 Brigade of 12 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) and assisted conduct of a mobile clinic to screen cardiac patients in Kataragama area on Sunday (6). More than 400 civilians, together with some members of the clergy received consultations from the clinic, organized at Kavantissapura Vidyalaya, Kataragama.

  • Brigades of 59 Division Celebrate New Year, Together With Civilians


    591Brigade of 59 Division under the Security Force Headquarters (Mullaittivu) organized a Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival and a Mega Musical Show backed by the beat group ‘Munneswaram’, a group formed by rehabilitated ex-combatants, to entertain the villagers in the area as well as the soldiers serving 591 Brigade recently (11). The programme, conducted with the objective of enhancing the mutual understanding, peace and harmony among the soldiers and the civilians, included both Sinhala and Tamil traditional games and cultural displays.
  • New SFHQ-West Commander Makes Formal Visit to His 141 Brigade


    Troops of the 141 Brigade at Boossa saluted the new Commander, Security Force Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) Major General U.A.B Medawela when he formally visited the Brigade Headquarters on Monday (9) after assumption of his office. He was received by 141 Brigade Commander and ushered to receive the Guard Turn Out in accordance with military traditions as the first item of the agenda. Afterwards, Major General Medawela was introduced to the officers who were present at the occasion, including the 14 Division General Officer Commanding.
  • Army Troops Bring Life to Dilapidated Hindu Temples

    WHILE performing duties to ensure security in respective areas, Jaffna-based Army troops continue to assist civil society in numerous ways to uplift their living standards. Troops in 52 Division during the past few days organized several welfare measures in different locations within their areas of command. On 11th August, 3 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops organized a “Shramadana” campaign to clean the temple yard of Iyanagar Hindu Kovil in Punidanagar since this holy place remained untidy for some time.

  • TROOPS FORGING AHEAD FIND TWO ANTI AIRCRAFT GUNS, 56 T-56 WEAPONS, 12.7 MM GUN & MORTARS

    MULLAITTIVU: TWO anti aircraft guns, one 12.7 mm gun, fifty-six T-56 weapons, twenty-two 60 mm mortars, six boats, one radar, one 81 mm mortar barrel, one 122 mm tri-pod and one Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) were among the latest recoveries made by 58 Division troops from VELLAMULLAVAIKKAL area Friday (15) afternoon as they commenced extended searches into newly dominated areas. All those LTTE explosive devices and equipment, believed to be from an underground LTTE armory emerged accidentally when the troops on suspicion dug the area early Friday (15) morning.
