SFHQ-West Troops Assist Conduct of Funeral of Late Bellanwila Wimalaratana Thera

Members of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) on the directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake extended their fullest cooperation for the smooth conduct of the funeral rites of Ven Professor Bellanwila Wimalaratana Nayake Thero, Chancellor, University of Sri Jayewardenepura who passed away on Saturday (3).

Soon after Ven monk's sudden demise was announced, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army instructed Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West to attend to the needs and coordinate all arrangements in this regard.

Accordingly, Army personnel under the guidance of Brigadier Jinendra Thanthiriwatta, Brigadier General Staff (BGS) assisted temple preparation and distribution of cooked meals, cleaning work and all other work as requested by the Dayaka Sabha and authoritative monks.

On the day of the cremation, a total of 300 Army personnel, headed by a Colonel to be in line with state honours, took part in the funeral procession that wended its way from Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya to the Sri Jayewardenepura university grounds along Dehiwala - Maharagama and Colombo - Piliyandala roads before it reached the venue across Rattanapitiya.
