Jaffna Troops Launch Tree Planting to Mark Independence Day

With the support of civilians and different organizations, 51 Division troops under the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) recently launched many eco-friendly environmental projects to coincide with the 70th Independence Day commemoration.

51 Division members of the Army, together with other public authorities conducted tree planting drives across the Jaffna town area under the supervision of Major General Roshan Seneviratne, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division.

All participants during the day planted more than 1000 seeds and saplings of fruits of herbal and economic value, such as woodapple (50), palmyra (100), etc and a few other spices with the patronage, extended by the SFHQ-J under the guidance of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF-J).

Meanwhile, 512 Brigade troops planted approximately 100 useful palmyra plants of economic value on both sides of the A9 road patch between Chenmini Junction and the 313 km post in Jaffna.
