Carefully selected 462 students who are suffering from Cancer (181), Chronic Kidney Diseases (218) and Thalassemia (63) of underprivileged families, still continuing their studies in remote schools in Moneragala district during 15-16 January received school stationery, accessories, shoes and other sports equipment as free gifts from the family members of Mrs Manel Abeyratne through the coordination done by the Capital City Rotary Club.
121 Brigade troops in close cooperation with the donors did the coordination part and participated in the distribution of those educational accessories among needy students during simple ceremonies, held separately at Mahaweli Cultural Centre in Tanamalvila, Buttala Divisional Secretariat premises and the Provincial Council office premises in Moneragala.
Those items sponsored by Mrs Manel Abeyratne and her family in close cooperation with the 121 Brigade Commander, Brigadier Nalin Koswatta were recently distributed among the students.
Those separate occasions were attended by all principals in recipient schools, teachers, parents and several Senior Officers of the Army.
