Christmas Spirits Colour Ampara

24 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) adding their share to the phenomenal Christmas arranged a Christmas Carols service for the second consecutive year at H.M Weerasinghe stadium in Ampara on Thursday (21).

The programme, meant to foster religious amity and brotherhood reconciliation and goodwill among different implicates was fully supported by Catholic priest at Ampara St. Ignatius Church in consultation with the General Officer Commanding, 24 Division Major General L.M Mudalige.

The colourful event, graced by Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Commander, Security Forces – East (SF-E) as the Chief Guest commenced with an inaugural prayer session and subsequent religious observances, administered by Rev. Fr. Thiruchelwam, Parish Priest at Church of Soori, Kalmunai.

Rev. Fr. Rohan Wasantha made the introductory speech, reminding the gathering of the true meaning of Christmas.

Different Choirs of Ampara Church, Inginiyagala Church, Soori Kalmunai Church in the company of the Army Choir sang odes and hymns jointly to the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

District Secretary for Ampara, Mr. Thusitha P. Wanigasinghe, as a special invitee attended the event.

Renowned civil organizations and the business community in the area extended their maximum support to make the event a success.

Senior DIG, Eastern Province, Mr. Kapila Jayasekara, Brigadier B.V.D.P Abeynayake GOC, 23 Division, Senior Army Officers and a large gathering of distinguished invitees and devotees were also present at the occasion.
