Sri Lanka Army wheelchair Tennis players who participated in the recent Thai Open Wheelchair Tournament did exceptionally well and brought honour to Sri Lanka.
In the men's singles, Corporal R.A.L.S Ranaweera won the first set 6/4 and was leading in the second 5/2 but the rains forced the finals be abandoned. However, players were declared joint champions, considering the unforeseen weather patterns.
In the doubles, Corporal R.A.L.S Ranaweera partnered by Lance Bombardier D.A.S.R Dharmasena finished in the third place.
This is the first time that Sri Lanka Army wheelchair tennis players achieved top places in the Thai Open championship tournament.
More than one hundred Paralympics tennis players, coaches and managers from different countries were associated with the events in Thailand.
