Final 'Ranaviru Real Star' Mission IV Enters Exciting Final Stages

The ‘Ranaviru Real Star’ (RRS) Mission IV, the pet project among members of the tri-services that saw its birth on a concept of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, now dubbed as the world’s one and only Reality Show of the Armed Forces, telecast in the national Rupavahini, is to reach its sensational final rounds with less than 36 finalists, entering the final rounds in the fray.

During a special Press Conference at Colombo Galadari Hotel Monday (24) evening, it was announced that the RRS, now with final 47 contenders of the tri-services, will scale down to 36 within next two weeks, thus paving the way to the cream of singers, to reach the programme’s apex in a couple of weeks before the end of May.

Today’s Press Conference, headed by Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development who conceptualized the project as a form of rest and recreation to battle-fatigued tri-servicemen in early 2011, saw the participation of tri-service Commanders and several other sponsors and artists at the head table.

Showcasing inalienable musical talents of the War Heroes through this mega TV show, the programme, has by now emerged as one of Sri Lanka’s most-watched live musical treats which explores hidden and untapped musical talents of tri-servicemen, including those serving in far remote corners of the island.

The media briefing, attended by a gathering of MoD organizers, tri-service Commanders and programme hosts and sponsors, announced that the RRS Mission IV, is to be comprised of final contenders in Army, Navy and Air Force who had displayed exceptional talents with a few songstresses.

During the audition process that went on for more than eight months across island-wide Army field formations, the Army succeeded in picking up 28 contenders for the final encounters. Millions join the programme by sending SMS for their favourite vocalist.

Organizers during the media conference outlined the success behind previous shows and how the whole concept came into being as a tribute to the commitment of tri-service War Heroes of our times.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal H.D. Abeywickrama, Director General, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Mr Chandrapala Liyanage, Representatives of Dialog, the main sponsor of the programme, Mr Jackson Anthony, Creative Designer of the Programme, Mr Edward Jayakodi, Ms Yashoda Wimaladarma and a few distinguished invitees, attended the occasion.

The winner in RRS Mission IV will receive a house, and the four runners-up will receive cash and cars as gifts.

A communiqué of the main Sponsor, Dialog states that Mission I and Mission II were record breakers; Mission III raised the bar even further and Mission IV promises even more. One of the most highly-anticipated and watched reality television shows in Sri Lanka, Ranavariu Real Star - currently in its fourth installment, entered its final phase today featuring the top 36 contestants.

Ranaviru Real Star, which highlights the hidden talents of our armed forces, is the brain child of the Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa and presented by the Ministry together with Dialog Axiata PLC. "Ranaviru Real Star opened the stage for our brave soldiers to showcase their hidden aesthetic talents to Sri Lankan public. In just three years, RRS has proliferated to a much anticipated programme, which has presented a new lease and opportunity for our service personnel. I wish RRS: Mission IV all success," Mr. Rajapaksa said.

The highly successful Mission III of Ranaviru Real Star received over 8.3 million SMS's at the grand finale, the highest number for any reality show final beating the 4 million SMS's received at the Mission ll finals.
