Woman Soldiers Continue to Support Ex-Woman Combatants

Woman soldiers of the 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC), headquartered in Jaffna during one more of their socio-economic welfare projects, dedicated for the well-being of former woman combatants, met 18 of those familied women, having babies below 5 years of age on Wednesday (8) and interacted with them in the hope of finding out their pressing needs.

The interactive socializing meeting with those women and family members took place at the Thenmaradchi Kalai Mantram Cultural Hall, Chavakachcheri, Jaffna where 7 SLAWC woman officers donated packets of milk powder to them as incentives.

7 SLAWC troops have been in the process of constantly inquiring into the well-being of those former woman combatants, many of who are now married and have children and also their progress in livelihoods. The ongoing project, which has been proved effective has been devised by the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Mahesh Senanayake in close contact with respective Grama Niladari officials, intending to offer moral, economic and other supportive assistance to them.

Several senior officers of the 7 SLAWC and members of those families attended the interactive meeting.
