Woman Soldier in a Rare Move Deposits Money for Vasavilan Student’s Studies

A woman soldier of 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) and her husband, a teacher by profession, in what could be considered as a rare gesture of reconciliation and magnanimity, have volunteered to offer a grant of Rs 3000/= per month to a student, reading for his university entrance examination at Vasavilan Central College, Jaffna.

On hearing that the clever student, K Kirushnath, a Grade 11 student of the Vasavilan Central College was faced with financial hardships to pursue his studies, the woman soldier, Lance Corporal R.M.R.M Rathnayake of 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) serving the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with the generosity, extended by her husband, Mr A.M Anura Priyadarshana Adikari, a teacher by profession at Thalakolawewa Maha Vidyalaya, Polpithigama, Kurunegala, came forward to offer this financial incentive to this Tamil student whose parents are undergoing financial difficulties.

The first installment of the grant, Rs 3000/= was deposited in the Bank of Ceylon Chunnakam Branch on Friday (17) in the beneficiary’s favour in the presence of his parents and the donors.

A team of fellow-teachers, headed by the Principal at Thalakolawewa Maha Vidyalaya who attended the occasion presented a stock of school accessories and stationeries to the beneficiary on the same occasion and extended their warm wishes for the student’s future.

Major P.S Rankothge, Commanding Officer, 7 SLAWC, appreciative of her soldier’s exemplary act was on hand at the time the donation was made.
