Wanni Troops-Built 15th New House Vested in One More Needy Family

The milestone completion of the construction of the 15th new house, built by Wanni troops for one more homeless family in the Wanni region was marked on Monday (20) when it was vested in the beneficiaries during a simple ceremony at Elayapaththuwa.

Two expatriates from Australia, Mr Eddie Robinson and Mrs Gayle Robinson following coordination made by the Commander, 212 Brigade, Colonel Anil Peiris sponsored the cost of the entire new home, constructed by Wanni troops in the 7 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) and 5 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG).

General Officer Commanding, 21 Division, Major General Kumar Jayapathirane gracing the ceremonial opening as the Chief Guest handed over the keys to the beneficiaries before warming rites and rituals were performed at the occasion.

The beneficiary, Mr K.B Asanka Pradeep Bandara of Elayapaththuwa with his five children was undergoing hardships and suffered due to lack of a proper shelter for them to reside. When their plight was brought to the attention of those two expatriates through the Army, they readily came forward placing full confidence in the troops as the best group who could perform a genuine job in this regard.

Accordingly, 7 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) and 5 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) technical staff, engineers and skilled members of the Army succeeded in constructing this new house, inclusive of a sitting room, dining room, bed rooms and a kitchen.

The project received the blessings of the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni (SF-W), Major General Rohitha Dharmasiri. This is the 15th house, erected by Wanni troops for needy families in the Wanni region through own initiatives.

At the same warming ceremony, the beneficiaries were awarded essential household items, electric appliances and furniture to the value of about Rs 1 lakh by same donors. A brief religious ceremony invoked blessings on the project.

The Commander, 212 Brigade, Senior Military Officers of the SFHQ-W, Commanding Officers of 7 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) and 5 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) and family members of the beneficiaries, neighbours and civilians were present during the ceremony.
