Wanni Region Given Welfare Assistance by Monks

A series of welfare measures for the benefit of civilians as well as members of clergy in the Wanni region were launched under able guidance of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni (SF-W).

With the sponsorship provided by Ven. Bogambara Rathana Jothi Nayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent, Nugegoda Siridhammarama Temple, porcelain plates, water pumps, water filters, glassware and cutlery, each packet, worth about Rs 50,000/= were distributed among monks residing in 10 Buddhist temples after inviting them to the auditorium at the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) as the first leg of the project on Sunday (7).

Around the same time, 350 school students received exercise books and 33 more Dhamma school students at Madukanda Piriwena received financial grants for purchase of their Dhamma school uniforms. Later on, 30 monks who were present at the ceremony were given alms together with the civilians who enjoyed a lunch offered by the SFHQ-W.

As the second leg, 100 families at Veheratenna resettled village were gifted 100 packs of farming equipment and instruments as a part of the day’s ceremony. The visiting monks and about 65 civilians went to Veheratenna and offered those gift items. Similarly, cookery items and funds for building were donated to the Veheratenna Mortis Aids Club on the same occasion in the presence of Brigadier Athula Kodippili, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division and the visiting monks.

Several Buddhist monks and a large gathering of laymen accompanying the monks attended those distribution ceremonies.
